Role Overview
We are seeking a Community Moderation Manager to oversee the health and dynamics of our open-source community. In this role, you’ll manage contributor interactions, enforce community guidelines, and support a respectful, collaborative environment where everyone feels valued. This role is ideal for someone with a background in community management and moderation, who understands the unique values of open-source and has a commitment to fostering inclusive and constructive discussions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Moderation Policies: Establish and enforce community guidelines to ensure respectful interactions and prevent conflicts, harassment, or disruptive behavior.
- Monitor Community Interactions: Actively monitor forums, discussion boards, and other communication channels to ensure compliance with community standards and address violations swiftly and fairly.
- Lead and Support Moderation Team: Coordinate with volunteer moderators, providing guidance on handling issues and encouraging consistent application of guidelines.
- Engage with Contributors: Act as a point of contact for contributors, addressing inquiries, supporting constructive dialogue, and facilitating a positive community experience.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts among community members, promoting understanding and resolution while maintaining a respectful environment.
- Promote Inclusivity: Work with community leaders to foster an inclusive environment, ensuring that diverse perspectives are welcomed and represented.
- Analyze Community Metrics: Track community engagement, issue reports, and gather feedback to assess the effectiveness of moderation practices and refine them as needed.
Requirements
- Experience in Community Moderation: Background in community moderation or management, preferably in open-source or volunteer-driven projects.
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to manage conflicts and foster positive interactions.
- Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Skilled in handling conflicts constructively, ensuring a supportive and respectful atmosphere within the community.
- Organizational Abilities: Able to manage multiple community channels, document guidelines, and oversee moderation activities efficiently.
- Understanding of Open-Source Culture: Familiarity with open-source principles and community dynamics, with a commitment to transparency and collaboration.
- Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: Passionate about creating an inclusive and respectful community space where all contributors feel valued and empowered.

- Commitment: Part-time, unpaid open-source contribution role with flexible scheduling.
